Did anyone else temporarily forget about HRT F1 team?

And you thought Caterham F1 was in a bad way... these guys were suffering so badly in their final season in 2012... Their car was underdeveloped (wasn't equipped with KERS) and didn't even pass mandatory crash safety tests at one point... They were also so slow, they didn't even get to compete in the Australian GP because they couldn't meet the 107% time limit... Pretty sad.

Gah I was happy to have forgotten about them. What a miserable disgrace of a failure. Did they even try? Or did they only have $30 to their name? Why would you try to race in F1 with only enough money to take your girlfriend out to a movie but not dinner too?

Seeing them at COTA during 2012 was odd. They seemed to be running a GP2 car in an F1 race, during the most competitive season in years

They were so slow, they made the Caterhams and Marussias look like they had a decent race pace.

Well, they probably thought they could make money through sponsorships but as you can see, they had none. I think at one point they ran decals that said "YOUR AD HERE" (Marussia did this too at one point)

You can tell they had nothing just looking at the front wing. I could make that. It's so basic compared to the competition.

Very true...

One thing I will say, is that in a season full of cars with ugly noses (besides the McLaren), the HRT actually looks relatively simple and clean.

HRT were a joke. It's okay though, because the same people behind that are now in at Caterham, so we'll be down another team soon.

The Caterhams and Marussias do have decent pace. Just being able to keep up with the tail end of the grid these days is impressive. Even HRT weren't bad compared to some of the backmarkers that were around 20 years ago like Life or Coloni.

I remember them, so glad they are gone, but I do wish that there were more teams running in F1 this year. I have to wait until 2016 and by then Caterham will be out and Marussia struggling for funds again.

Yeah, that's the unfortunate truth, but I'll be surprised if Caterham can honestly keep it together long enough to compete in 2015. And if they do start the season, I'll be more surprised if they finish it.

Marussia seems to have a pretty solid backing from Scuderia Ferrari, so unless something happens to that partnership, they should be ok.

Yeah, they appear to be in really rough shape. I'm not sure if what happened with Kamui Kobayashi in Russia was true (as far as them making him retire as to not wear down parts/save money) but I'm sure he's very disappointed considering he gave up a perfectly good seat in a Ferrari for sportscar racing to be at Caterham as they're circling the drain.

Kamui seemed confused by the situation and even admitted during that encounter that returning to F1 with Caterham was a mistake, which is sad. I miss his kamikaze overtakes. I think that it is probably true that they withdrew him to try to avoid a breach of contract with FOM by not finishing the season that would surely cost them whatever Bernie money they managed to acquire when they were 10th. HRT did the same thing for their last few races. If Kamui had a brake problem, he would have known because he likely would have felt it before his engineer could see it on the telemetry.

Yeah, that's why I think the statement the team released earlier regarding the issue was BS. Like you said, he would've known if there was an issue and said that in the interview.
